BUGHOUSE WARS: Holiday edition!

Friday evening, December 19

at the Oklahoma City Chess Club

10 NE 10th Street in downtown Oklahoma City

Bughouse is an exciting version of chess where two-player teams play on adjacent boards. Captured pieces are passed to the teammate, who has the option of placing them on their own board. No US Chess membership is required—this one's just for fun.

Registered players with teammates check in by 6:45. Come between 6 and 6:30 if you need a teammate. Onsite registration 6–6:30.

Time control: G/5 (Game in five minutes, no increment or delay.)

Format: Five double rounds, Swiss

Prizes: Trophies for the top three overall teams and the top team with an average rating under 1000.

Schedule:

6 p.m. Onsite registration until 6:30.

6:30 p.m. Deadline to check in/pay EF. Come early (closer to 6 than 6:30) if you need a partner. We will try to find one for you (no guarantees).

Round one at 7.

Equipment: Sets & clocks provided.

Entry: $10 per player. Registration opens soon.

This tournament is not US Chess rated. No membership is required.

Partners: If you already know who you're partnering with, enter their name in the field provided when you register. Otherwise, send us an email when you get that figured out or tell us onsite before 6:30 p.m.

Players without partners: Don't worry, we'll help you find somebody. It helps if we know by 6 p.m., so if you can't get there that early, send us a text at (405) 642-6136.

Team names: You and your partner will need to come up with a team name. Get creative; we had some doozies last time.

Questions? Call (405) 642-6136 or send an email to rebecca@chessokc.com.

Return home

Safe play: Oklahoma City Chess Club tournaments are run in accordance with US Chess Safe Play policies. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated and should be reported to the tournament director.

Refunds: A player can receive a refund if they cancel up to one hour before the tournament start time. Players who no-show do not receive a refund.

No shows = not cool.
For tournaments that don't require players to check in, it's still very important that we know who's coming and who isn't. A no-show means somebody gets paired with an opponent who's not coming. If something comes up, just send us a text so we'll know not to pair you. Players who no-show may be prohibited from registering in advance for future tournaments.

Running late?

No worries. Just send a text to (405) 642-6136 before the cutoff time and we'll put you in.

Otherwise, players who register after the posted cutoff time will be given a first-round bye in Swiss tournaments. For tournaments that require players to check in, those who are not checked in by the cutoff time will be given a half-point bye for round one. For quads, players who arrive after the registration cutoff/check-in time may not be able to participate in the event.

Equipment: Sets, clocks, scoresheets, and pencils are provided at all Oklahoma City Chess Club tournaments. For events held in the café, bring your own equipment if you can.

Playing up: Unless otherwise noted in the TLA, a player within 150 points of the next rating threshold may play up to that section for a $10 fee.

Combined sections: When sections must be combined for pairings purposes, players compete for prizes in the section they chose at entry. Play-up fees, if any, are refunded.

US Chess membership: A current US Chess membership is required for all rated tournaments. (Bughouse is not rated.) New US Chess members may purchase their membership through us and pay no entry fee for their first tournament if they do so by that tournament's early entry deadline.

Parents & kids: Children must not be left unattended at any time in the chess club lobby, skittles room, or in the café.

About the venue: The chess club is located above Kamp's 1910 Café. Except on Sundays, when the café is closed, do not bring any outside food or drink into the building. Try something from their delicious menu instead.

Accessibility: If you require special accommodations due to a disability, please let us know in advance so we can do our best to ensure you have a great tournament experience.

Capacity: Limited to 60 players.
